The challenge
For SPS Italia 2025 in Parma, VisionLink wanted a fully automated demonstration line for quality control – using apples as an example – that combines precision, hygiene, and practicality. This Italian company specializes in industrial image processing. It develops and distributes systems for automated inspection and quality control, especially for image processing applications in various industries. The aim of the demonstration line was to show visitors how state-of-the-art image processing and robotics can automate typical inspection processes. The requirements for the line were high: A stable, precise transport of the sensitive products, exact positioning for reliable evaluations, and a modular design that can be adapted to different inspection processes – regardless of the industry in question.
The solution
Montech worked with
VisionLink, Mechatronic, and Lexter Italia to develop the MELA demonstration line. This automated inspection system uses fresh fruit as a demonstration object to show how state-of-the-art image processing and robotics can be combined. In nine test stations, apples undergo complete quality control – from visual inspection to surface analysis and volume measurement. Our LTE transfer system ensures a smooth and stable product flow. Mechanical supports on the pallets ensure that the apples remain exactly positioned – even when changing directions or stopping. The system's modular design allows for easy adaptation and expansion.
The customer benefits
